Yamoussoukro

Yamoussoukro is the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and is situated in the center of the country. Established as the capital in 1983, it was a controversial move from the former capital, Abidjan, due to its historical and political significance. Yamoussoukro is named after a local chief and is known for its unique blend of urbanization and natural scenery, featuring lakes, gardens, and a tropical climate. The economy of Yamoussoukro is somewhat less developed compared to larger cities like Abidjan, but it remains an important center for education and commerce in the region. Various educational institutions, including a branch of the University of Côte d'Ivoire, make it a hub for students from across the country. While agriculture remains a significant part of the local economy, with cocoa and coffee being primary exports, the city is also witnessing gradual modernization and infrastructure development.
