The chapel of St. Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of the Polish Crown

3 20

About

The chapel is an original example of wooden architecture (the Trail of Wooden Architecture of the Silesian Voivodeship), drawing motifs from the folk architecture of the Polish mountains (including istebnia), which it combines with elements of the so-called Zakopane style, characteristic of Polish architecture of the 1920s. The architectural form of the chapel, as well as its furnishings, was designed by Ludwik Konarzewski senior. The altar, carved personally by the artist, is in the form of a triptych framed by the forms of local architecture and decorative arts.

The altar depicts, symbolically and in the convention of apotheosis, Cieszyn Silesia. Already in the interwar period, the founder and creator of the shrine took care of its additional furnishing with sculptural and painted religious representations.

The chapel was erected in 1923 as a votive offering of thanksgiving for his happy return from exile in the Urals. It is the last remnant of the former "Buchnik" - wooden buildings entirely designed and built here by Ludwik Konarzewski senior in the interwar period.
