Description
Europos Parkas is an open-air museum of modern and contemporary art that dates back to 1991, when Lithuania regained independence. It was founded by Gintaras Karosas, a sculptor and the author of the museum’s entire artistic landscape. Europos Parkas gives artistic significance to the geographic centre of the European continent and is being developed as a uniform, congruous ensemble of nature and artwork. The main driving force behind the foundation of Europos Parkas was a dream and a desire to have an exceptional ensemble of art and nature that would represent Lithuania.
While enjoying the treasured landscape of the park, you will at the same time discover the admirable world of art. The exhibition spans an area of 55 hectares and displays over 120 works by artists from 35 countries. The collection includes large-scale works by famous contemporary artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Dennis Oppenheim, Sol LeWitt, Beverly Pepper, Aleš Veselý, and Sasson Soffer. The artworks are permanently exhibited amidst beautiful rolling hills, woodlands, and grasslands dotted with natural springs.
