Description
The Teutonic Castle in Malbork is a cultural heritage monument of world rank. It has been under special protection since 1997, when it was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its unique architectural qualities.
The rich history of the site began at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Intensively expanded since 1309, the castle advanced to become the capital of one of the most powerful states on the southern Baltic coast: the Teutonic Order.
In 1457 the fortress was taken over by Polish troops and came under Polish jurisdiction. Until the partitions, it served Polish kings in building the economic and military power of the Polish Republic. In 1945, with the end of World War II, it returned to Polish hands.
Today the castle is home to a living museum center. The Malbork Castle Museum attracts more than half a million tourists from all over the world every year. It attracts not only with its monumental walls, but also with its diverse collection of unique exhibits.
What's more, Malbork Castle is a center for experts, a meeting place for people of science and culture, journalists and politicians, as well as an open-air venue for newly made films and frequent concerts.
It is a place you must visit.
