About
In the 21st century, shepherding traditions are already being continued by only a few highlanders. That's why it's worth visiting the Piotr Kohut Shepherd's Center, which is located on the northwestern slopes of Ochodzita, not far from the center of Koniaków. Next to the stately house, in which a "highlander" store with various kinds of souvenirs has been located, there is a second building, which is now the main seat of the Shepherd's Center. In it you will see an exhibition dedicated to shepherding - documents attesting to the history of salaš, shepherd's crockery and bells, as well as boards with information on sheep grazing in the mountain pastures. On the first floor you can meet live goats and sheep. Nearby stands a small shepherd's hut erected on a log from wooden beams. In it you can "watch" a presentation of the production of a traditional highland specialty, i.e. sheep's cheese in the form of - especially - oscypek (now protected, by EU restrictions, a regional product). We will also learn here what bundz, bryndza or żentyca is. And after a solid dose of knowledge there will be time for the consumption of delicacies ... Bacówka is open during the grazing season, that is from April to October, while the store and exhibitions - all year round.
