About
The Sułów Commune is located in the Lublin Voivodeship within the so-called Padół
Zamojski. It is characterized by extraordinary landscape, tourist and natural values.
The Wieprz River flows through hers area along with tributaries – the Por and
Łętownia. There is also a part of the Nielisz Water Reservoir in our commune. The aquatic
environment of our region favors the occurrence of richness flora and fauna. It is also a place
often chosen by fishing enthusiasts who seek peace and relaxation in the bosom of nature.
Tourists also willingly visit the ,,Golden Sands’’ swimming area located on the so-called
"island" in Kulików on the Nielisz Water Reservoir. A beautiful beach awaits them here,
where they can relax under straw umbrellas and palm trees.
Very interesting place in our commune is the village of Sąsiadka, or rather the
remains of the early medieval prized military settlement located there..The gord was most
likely founded by Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise, who built the fortified settlement in 1034 -
1039 to guard the border with Poland. In 1069, Sutiejsk was captured by Bolesław II Śmiały,
during his raid over Rus’. The gord was burned, and quickly rebuilt by Poles, who controlled
it until the late 11th century. Sutiejsk was a very important trade and administrative center,
with several meetings of Polish and Rus dukes taking place here. Some time between 1086
and 1097, Poles returned the gord to the Volhynian Duke Dawid Igorewicz, who visited it
several times, as archaeologists found five lead seals with his name on them. Polish rulers
remained keenly interested in Sutiejsk, and in 1121, Bolesław Krzywousty captured it during
his raid over Volhynia and Ruthenia. Sutiejsk was once again destroyed and rebuilt, and used
as a military base for further Polish raids. At that time, its total area was 21 hectares, divided
into three parts, with a walled center, the seat of a local duke. Three rings of ramparts, which
protected the gord, were up to six meters high, and several hundred meters in circumference.
Sutiejsk was located in historical route connecting Kiev with Krakow and belonged to the
group of the Cherven Towns.
The Sułów Commune also invites architecture lovers. They will find here a beautiful
historic church in Tworyczów. The wooden three-nave temple was built in the years 1932-
1933. Next to it there is also a wooden bell tower from 1949.
