Underground Tourist Passage

The Underground Tourist Passage in Yaroslavl is located under the townhouses of Rynek 4, 5 and 6. Tickets can be purchased at the Tourist and Cultural Information Center, operating at the Center for Culture and Promotion in Yaroslavl (Rynek 5). The underground passage is 186 meters long, and its depth reaches 6 meters below the surface of the Market Square.

The Underground Tourist Passage was built as part of a joint project with Yaroslavl's partner city Uzhgorod in Ukraine. On the Polish side, the project included the renovation, conservation and adaptation of historic cellars at the Yaroslavl Market Square, while on the Ukrainian side it was planned to carry out renovation and conservation work on the Ambar Castle in Uzhgorod and recreate wine cellars there.

While wandering along the route of the Underground Tourist Passage, one can visit
11 exhibition halls presenting expositions on: ceramics, bourgeois kitchen with kitchen facilities from the 16th and 17th centuries, hunting, Yaroslavl fairs, paleontology, archaeology of the San River, history of saving the Old Town in Yaroslavl and showing a model of old Yaroslavl.

The tour of the Underground Passage is enhanced by light and sound effects, and the exhibitions are enriched by colorful graphics. Innovative multimedia solutions have been used along the route, which are an attraction especially for children and teenagers. Thanks to these solutions, visitors can, among other things: fire a clay vessel on their own, sail a boat down the San and Vistula rivers, or dress up in 17th-century costume.
