Kawulok's Hut

2 21

Description

The old wooden house, dating from 1863, is full of old household appliances and tools that Kawulok used in his workshop. It authentically reflects the conditions in which the inhabitants of Istebna lived in the second half of the nineteenth century. It once belonged to Jan Kawulok, an outstanding folklorist, performer of folk instruments and musician, awarded the Oskar Kolberg Prize. The cottage was the place where he lived and worked, and here he decided to create a regional chamber, a house-museum that would allow him to "stop time." Although Jan Kawulok died in 1976, his Kurna Chata is still alive with tales of the old days and highland music. Once thanks to his daughter Zuzanna, today, thanks to the young custodian Janusz Macoszek, we can visit the place and listen to storytelling, playing shepherd instruments, and participate in workshops organized for groups.
