The Jerzy Kukuczka Memorial Chamber is located in Istebna, in the hamlet of Wilcze. This is where Jerzy Kukuczka used to visit with his family, his sons, his friends; this is where he rested between his expeditions; this is where he worked on his books in peace and quiet. He knew this region by heart, having spent his childhood in it. Although he was born in Katowice, but his roots come from here - from Istebna. After Jerzy's tragic death on the south face of Lhotse, a great many people interested in his character began to visit the place. They took pictures and asked if they could hear or see something about him.
